![]() ⏵ arrival ⏴ Arrival is absolutely not normal this month. Instead of a hospital bed, you wake in a tunnel with a large group of other people. These are the residents. A woman’s voice in an earpiece hurriedly clues you in with an apology. I apologize; I had not planned to introduce you this way, but we are low on time. Please proceed down the hallway. For everyone else, coming in is much the same. The instruction goes out to head to designated areas immediately, where companion bots will escort the residents of Etraya down into the depths, the area beneath where much the same is explained. ![]() ⏵ disrobing ⏴ The tunnel eventually opens directly into the foreroom of an expansive library, painted in marvelous hues and patterns with skylights far above. There are wizards milling about, bearded and holding tomes, quietly chatting amongst themselves. The reception area of the library has tall ceilings with equally tall doors Before you get too caught up in the scenery, a voice directs you forward. A gentleman, hunched and bespeckled craws out. "Make a line! Make a line, everyone! You cannot enter the library dressed as you are... Come forward and give me your name." The receptionist asks your given name and then hands over a box from underneath his counter. You can give him any name you want, he doesn’t seem to mind. It is tied with a tagged ribbon- labeling it accordingly. “The _____ robe of _______.”
As you read what the contents of the box may be, they form inside- Looking and behaving as your character expects them to. After all, magic is all in the wielder’s mind. Don your robes and enter the library. ![]() ⏵ unfamiliar familiars ⏴ For those without a familiar (like one hatched from an egg not too long ago) you may borrow one from the library counter. They all have strengths and weaknesses, but they will all assist in the very important mission. As you roam the library, they will make little indications that you are closer or further from finding a piece of the pearl.
![]() ⏵ the task at hand ⏴ With robes donned and creature in hand, you must now complete your mission. Find the pieces of the shattered pearl. As you enter the library, you may notice that it’s all very dim. There’s oil lamps around the place that may be moved with you to assist in your journey if your robes do not already emit light. Break off and search the library. There is a directory at the front to point guests to all the different sections.
Each section looks enough like the last, though the books within have immense power. Pick up the wrong book, and you might conjure a dragon or a historical figure! You must persist and avoid making too much noise or breaking too many things. Or else the Librarian, a tall mass of knotted fabric will confiscate your robe and usher you back outside. Your name will be struck from the list, and you must pick a new one to re-enter the library to continue the search. You can try to fight back against him- he may be set alight with the lamp. But should you be starting fires in here? Any thread with 15 comments between you and another may be submitted to find a piece of the pearl. There are 20 pieces altogether, and we will determine if the mission was successful by March 28th. A post will go live on the OOC comm for this! This mission occurs out of time, similar to how the spaceship had. Meaning, those currently in game can experience these events any time between now, and March 14th. Please direct all questions to our mod queries comment! |
robes and critters
The cat, on the other hand, makes the woodrat retreat into the well-weathered robe he's got draped over his shoulders like a cloak. ]
Seems like some kind of twisted joke, doesn't it?
[ He is but a medieval man, he can commiserate. ]
Pretty sure the robes mean whatever we think they mean. I joked about how a ratty robe could guide me and here we are.
[ He's sure Adam saw that rodent before it somehow merged with the garment from whence it had come. ]

however he isn't as angry as he is just depressed by the whole thing. his energy levels are low and he looks the part of someone who had been nearly starving to death. )
I would say it is a twisted joke.
( he does notice the robe, eyeing yuri through and through before looking back at him. )
Let's just hope those rats are clean, for our sake?

[ As though it illustrates his point, he shrugs the robe off his shoulders and shows Adam both sides of it. Not a rat to be seen, and it looks clean enough, despite having the weathered, worn look of a pauper's old cloak. ]
They only deign to appear when I'm looking for something.
[ A robe of ratty guidance indeed... He drapes the thing back over his shoulders, not bothering to try and put it on properly. ]
...But let's set that aside for a moment. Are you injured?
[ Adam's got a rough look about him, and Yuri ought to know. He's seen his share of people ground under heel in life, by luck, by design, or by sheer indifference. ]

little by little he was starting to understand the purpose of these creatures and what they were suppose to do-
but then came that concerning question. although he had been patched up somewhat upon his arrival [the bullet wound was sewed up], he was looking rough. he just wasn't sure if he should be sharing too much about his ordeal since technically he was still in shock. )
Uh well...I got dragged here at a pretty shitty point in time for me. I don't know where you come from but in my world we have this crazy serial killer running around.
( actually when he thought about it, maybe he should tell him. so he stood up and set the cat down, the creature bolting off to the other side of the room now. )
Say....If I wanted to find out if someone was here or not, how can I go about that?

Besides, his domain is the underground. He very nearly volunteers that he knows healing magic, that he can mend injuries and even ensure they're clean thanks to Marianne sharing a spell, but the offer stalls on his tongue. Finding people he knows? Hm.
He'll come back to the healing bit. ]
Was, or is? [ He pauses for only a moment, supposing the answer is the same either way. ] I'd say your options are asking Aurora, our overseer here, or checking the network. You can dig back through past discussions or make an inquiry there, depending on what your angle is.
[ Like whether he wants whoever he's checking for to know he's doing so. ]

not that it mattered, that wasn't even his real name. what he was more intrigued by was seeing if his fellow torture-mate was here, but he won't be sharing that information. the man had abandoned him and frankly he was out for blood-
but before adam could do anything else, a loud rumble in his stomach spoke up for him. )
Yeah actually I have a lot of fucking questions for that Aurora, like why she couldn't have offered us a little snack before dragging us into this bullshit.

[ Yuri offers this unhelpful tidbit, but more importantly, he takes a moment to procure a bundle of something from his jacket. When he unwraps that bundle, its purpose is evident. He's got jerky — the look and peppered aroma are recognizable.
In the next moment, he holds the jerky out for Adam to easily help himself if he so chooses. ]
Here. Old habit— people in my homeland need to be prepared.
[ Food poverty's a hell of a thing, and it's a persistent woe in Faerghus regardless of one's status.
He pauses after a moment. Considers. Then— ]
...I'll prove it's safe, if you like.
