 ⏵ arrival⏴ Arrival goes as anticipated. Characters awaken in the pristine, new hospital, greeted by Aurora and potentially getting a rundown of what's happening depending on their approach to being dropped somewhere new. The door to their room opens, and new arrivals are left free to explore their new environment. When the first round of citizens arrived, Aurora and the companion bots had been largely unprepared. This time? They made sure to put up welcome banners, even if the sentiment isn't quite right. There are cupcakes and cookies set out in the hospital's lobbies, and a digital map has been placed just in front of the entrance of the hospital, telling others how to reach the various locations throughout Etraya. Companion bots wander throughout the city, some carrying construction equipment to half-built facilities while others act as nurses, servers, or sales associates throughout the constructed buildings.  ⏵ rainy awakenings ⏴ Many concepts are new to Aurora, including rain. She is familiar with how it functions, and its purpose, but rain has never been present on the lands of Etraya. Given how new it is, that may not be all too surprising - but the method of how it’s being introduced is… a little much. Rainfall commences in the early days of April, a persistent downpour that waxes and wanes in intensity but never ceases entirely. Most nights in Etraya are characterized by a soothing patter of rain against rooftops. Yet, some nights leave the grounds flooded come morning. Rivers begin to swell, the current much too strong to justify trying to go for a swim. These showers also bring a new assortment of plants blooming across the green lands: bright blossoms whose petals spread wide when the yellow sun shines down on them, while numerous cherry blossom trees have grown out of nowhere, flourishing despite the rainfall. Clover carpets the grassy expanses of the islands, weaving a beautiful tapestry of color across the grounds. ⏵ Getting drenched by the rain can trigger a surge, followed by a slump. Initially, individuals will feel giddy, excited, full of energy, and ready to take on the world. However, in the subsequent days, they’ll find themselves feeling depressed, lacking the energy and motivation to move forward. Aurora advises that these effects are only temporary and should fade within the week, but they can be resolved more quickly by embracing a stranger. Attempting to hug anyone they already know well will not produce the same effect. ⏵ With the rain comes a significant increase in the greenery around Etraya that isn’t fake. Most of these plants will resemble ones originally found in the characters' universes. ⏵ A couple of these plants contain magical properties: The Emberloom is a bright red, fiery flower that only inhabits smaller land masses. Those exposed to its pollen will experience heightened aggression and impulsivity. These flowers will continue to bloom through April, after which the companion bots will search for and remove them from the atmosphere bubble. ⏵ If there is a specific, unique plant that those in game (or those accepted during the next round!) would like to add, please comment to the LOCATIONS page! We’ll add mentions of these to the Outskirts section. Along with the botanical resurgence, numerous new animals appear: glowing fish swim freely through the waters. In the canopy above, new species of birds and critters flit among the branches. Some diligently construct new nests in anticipation of the coming spring, while others seek refuge in the shelter of trees, retreating from the weather. Not all the creatures are so small, or so peaceful. ⏵ Small critters make themselves comfortable in the forested area around Etraya, staying mostly out of the way. There are the occasional visitors that will let themselves in through windows for a quick visit, or maybe a snack, but they’re mostly harmless. ⏵ Several larger beasts make their way into the city to try and find land that’s more habitable for them. Giraffes navigate gracefully through the areas designated for new arrivals, using their elongated necks to reach for the foliage near the hospital when they aren’t finding new places to make themselves comfortable. An eclectic array of cats, ranging in all sizes and breeds, brazenly saunter into buildings they don’t belong. Hopefully, the lioness lounging in the apartment complex's common area does not prevent residents from reaching their rooms, because she has no intention of yielding. ⏵ The leopard adorned with a rattlesnake tail in the hospital's cafeteria may be difficult to ignore, given his determination to devour everything in sight and attack anyone in his way. ⏵ Cat scratches and bites pose a significant risk of infection. In the event a character is injured, individuals can expect the companion bots to quickly seek them out and approach them with a special antibiotic cream developed specifically for these cats. Refusal of treatment may result in severe symptoms, including high fevers and itching. In extreme cases, individuals may begin to exhibit cat-like characteristics, ranging from physical alterations to changes in mental traits. ⏵ Numerous other creatures of all shapes and sizes will be coming and going through the city. You may play with this as you wish! While the uproar caused by these guests doesn’t particularly bother Aurora, she does send out a message to everyone wearing an earpiece to request their assistance in capturing the larger animals that her companion bots may not be able to handle themselves. She has converted an island to the East into a temporary holding area until the companion bots can set them up with something a little more permanent.  ⏵ network ⏴ Welcome to Etraya! Upon your arrival, Aurora provided an earpiece, a device to make communication with others stuck in the same situation more simple. The device connects to an internal network, which is accessible by everyone else currently residing on planet. Whether you’re looking for guidance, camaraderie, or want to see if there are any familiar faces around, this is the perfect place to do it! Please feel free to post any questions, offer your name, ask for assistance, or maybe complain to the powers that be about how you’ve got better things to be doing than sitting around here completing their missions. Maybe they’re listening. Maybe they’re not. ⏵ During April, Etraya’s getting a little wet! Those who spend too long in the rain may experience a few unfortunate effects. ⏵ The rain brings in new flora, including a couple that may cause characters to experience aggression and impulsivity, or take a stroll through others’ dreams. ⏵ New animals also appear! While many of them are friendly, others… are less so. The cats specifically seem to be a little grumpy. Characters scratched or bitten by these cats may find themselves becoming just as catty. 'Oracle' in the username. Talking about casting Sending. Sure, it could just be a coincidence. The chance that it is a coincidence is by far larger than it not being a coincidence, and yet Fabian's mind immediately skips right over to the latter, much smaller chance. It's just got to be. ]

I felt weird just going and claiming an apartment, but it's raining so hard, I didn't want to wander around aimlessly.
The food isn't as good as Krom's but it's good enough, and I was so hungry after being in the van for four days.

[ Apparently he's serious about that. Because it's not too much later - say, the time it would take someone to run at full speed over to the diner, with a little bit of time added to it because he definitely walked in the wrong direction even after seeing the map at least once - that Fabian enters the diner. Of course he didn't hesitate to go right over. It's Adaine. After waking up here and thinking he was all alone when he couldn't find or contact his friends, there's no way Fabian isn't incredibly glad that he isn't entirely alone after all.
.. not to mention that he still feels bad over what apparently happened back when they were fighting Baron. He can't remember, but judging by what Adaine and everyone else said-- if he really hurt her that much, then Fabian feels like he should make up for it. Even if he wasn't the one who did it, technically speaking.
It means the least he could do for her is be by her side ASAP when it seems the other more physical fighters of their group aren't around her right now. Adaine may be powerful in her own way, but she's definitely much more of a glass cannon, and Fabian doesn't feel like he can trust this weird place just yet.
Hence why he straight up runs into the diner. Hey, Adaine, it's your pal Fabian! He looks incredibly soggy from the rain and is also panting like he ran a marathon, but his face lights up all the same the moment he spots her sitting there. ]

[ No, he doesn't care if half the diner looks up to see what sort of maniac just entered. Fabian ignores any stares, instead running right up to her booth, and then - without hesitation - leaning down to give her a quick hug-squeeze with a grin on his face. He's too happy to see her to not hug her, and toxic masculinity is dead and buried anyway. Screw that. ]
Are you alright? You haven't been sitting here on your own for too long now, have you?

Still, through all of her exhaustion and confusion, her face brightens as soon as Fabian walks into the room. As it usually does when that happens, because Fabian is a brightening presence in not only Adaine's life, but the world as a whole around him. ]
Fabian!
[ She stands from the booth just in time to be pulled into a tight hug. She tenses at first, before sinking into it, wrapping her own arms around Fabian's back and laughing. ]
Long enough that I'd finally dried off, and now you're going to get me all wet again, you big oaf!
[ She pulls back from the hug, the smile on her face making it clear that she's only teasing fondly. But then, suddenly, the smile fades and her eyes goes wide as she finally catches sight of the massive, gold, sans serif tattoo stretching across Fabian's neck. ]
"Maximum Legend"...? Fabian, what the hell is that?!

.. the grin fades a little when Adaine pulls back and actually looks at him though. Granted, it gives him the opportunity to look at her too, but at least the fatigue on her end can be kind of explained. They've all been having a pretty rough time for most of junior year so far, after all. Adaine could be looking this tired for any number of reasons, though it's still kind of concerning.
But the question she asks? Now that's way more concerning. Especially when Fabian's tattoo may be relatively new in its current form, but he's had the regular version of it for quite some time already. ]
What do you mean? [ He frowns. Not an angry frown, but one that is definitely way confused.
How could she not know? ]
You know, it's-- it's my tattoo! My tattoo that shows I am Maximum Legend! [ He gestures at his neck, as if that will suddenly make it all clear again to his friend. ] Papa gave it to me! [ Another slight pause, and with her still looking like she doesn't get it, he'll even add: ] You were there!

Fabian, I... have no idea what you're talking about. We've been sitting in the Hangvan together for the past three days, and you haven't had that tattoo.
[ Granted, Fabian has spent most of the drive staring forlornly out the window (presumably trying to catch a glimpse of Ecaf in the distance), so she hasn't had readily available view of the front of his neck, but she thinks she would have noticed any large, gold lettering at some point over the summer. ]
And we haven't seen your dad since Spring Break last year. [ ... ] Or, at least, I haven't.
[ She has an idea of what might be happening here. No real way to prove it, but... it's a theory. ]
I think we might be under the effects of some sort of Chronomancy spell. What day is it for you?

[ Similarly, Fabian is also pretty sure that this isn't Adaine pulling some prank on him. Maybe if she was in the company of the rest of their friends, but under the current strange circumstances, and when it's just the two of them? He doesn't think her the type to pull something like that.
But if she's serious, then that's.. a pretty troubling idea. The possibility she brings up at the end there also seems the most likely to him, especially since he can't imagine anything else that might explain this. ]

[ His voice trails off. It's not that he doesn't know, but he's kind of trying to puzzle things together with what she's saying. Haven't seen his father since Spring Break last year, so it must be quite a while after that last time they saw him, and then having spent days in the Hangvan..

Just thinking back on the period he's pretty sure Adaine remembers last is enough to make Fabian pull an absolutely miserable facial expression. ]
Wait, the last thing you remember is the entire Night Yorb thing?! [ That sure would explain why Adaine looks like this. Fabian is pretty sure they all looked like that afterwards. ] Adaine, that was.. well, it was pretty much half a year ago, last I remember! It's spring again already!

[ As well as one hell of a planar binding. That turns one problem to solve into two problems. Even if Adaine can figure out how to get them back to Spyre, how can she manage to get each of them to their correct point in time. ]
And... You're saying I've been with you the whole time? You never noticed I was missing?
[ Surely, if Adaine was temporally kidnapped on the night before the first day of school, and Fabian had made it all the way to spring again without her, he would have had a very different reaction upon seeing her again for the first time. ]

I mean-- You don't think that we would have let you be missing all the way from summer break to the beginning of spring, right? [ The very idea guts him. Especially when this year's loneliness has only made it more clear to Fabian just how fond he is of all of his friends, how much he misses them when they're not there. ] You know we would have torn up the place to find you, no matter what we had to do!
[ He sounds so confident about that. Like it's just a fact. Something that inevitably would've happened.
.. though a bit of that confidence drops in favour of an uncertain look when he adds: ]
I just really don't understand any of this. Why we're here, what this place is, why there's some strange chronomancy thing going on on top of it all.. [ He slowly shakes his head, then move up a hand to pull it through his still wet hair. ] This feels more confusing than any situation we've ended up in before.
[ Which is saying a lot, considering their usual levels of hijinks! ]

[ Adaine saw first hand the lengths that her friends went to the last time she was kidnapped. She wonders if Fallinel has even recovered from the invading army of Agueforts.
She gestures to the seat across from her in the booth. ] Here, sit. We can at least be confused over a plate of chips.
[ There's a companion bot lingering across the diner, and Adaine waves it over to take Fabian's order. As it totters over, she leans in close to Fabian to whisper. ]
Try to keep your order simple. I asked for a chicken sandwich, and it gave me fried chicken and a PB&J.

[ Although he did listen to her and actually moved to sit down, he just blinks at her in confusion as she tells him that last part. His mouth opens and closes a few times like a goldfish, especially when he notices how rapidly that bot is approaching, giving him very little time to think about this.
It sure doesn't help that there's the two richest - or, well, ex-rich in Adaine's case, but Fabian hasn't quite realised as much - kids out of their group sitting here. Fabian hardly knows what you can order in a place like this, especially when it has to be simple?
For a moment it looks like he's outright panicking, especially when the companion bot stops next to their booth for the order, and in the end instinct more than conscious thought takes over as he says: ]
I-- Ice cream! Ice cream!
[ Apparently the only simple diner order in his mind is just ingrained there due to Basrar's, huh..
The bot is already moving back after that order, and Fabian almost seems to pale a little in the face when he looks back at his friend, realising his mistake, no matter how instinctive.. ]
You.. You don't think that it's going to bring us ice and cream now, do you? Why is it messing up orders like that in the first place?

[ As for why it's messing up orders, though... Adaine shrugs. ]
Beats me. Maybe there's something wrong with it? Or maybe it's just not used to having to serve people. [ She gestures out the window to the very rainy, very empty street. ] I don't know if you've noticed, but there aren't very many people here. I can't imagine it gets all that many customers.

Right, so we are in some-- some empty town filled mostly with those things, with a food place that does not understand food, and with what is currently only one third of our party. [ Hey, it's a pretty good third! Adaine is super capable, Fabian likes to think he is super capable, it works out.
But it still puts them at more of a disadvantage than they usually are. ]
And we're here to do.. what, exactly?
[ Yes, he did miss the entire introduction. Sorry, Adaine. That's why he's giving you that confused look across the table in their little booth. ]

[ She had been a bit busy having a minor panic attack, unable to absorb everything that was said, but she at least caught the gist. ]
We've been chosen, by... someone or something... to put forth some kind of argument as to why our universe should not be destroyed. I didn't entirely catch why they're destroying universes, but it sounds like we're going to be called on to complete certain missions to prove ourselves worthy of surviving the purge.

[ The way he says that by itself is probably enough to tell Adaine so much. He clearly missed the entire thing, and in Fabian's case it sure was not because he was having a panic attack. It's more just that he jumped off the bed and ran off before anyone or anything could even appear to explain the situation to him..
Hence why he sounds so baffled by the idea there was a welcome speech. He missed it in the wildest of ways.
But sure, sure-- He knows it isn't the most important thing here in the light of the rest of what Adaine says. It gets him to move a hand up into his still-wet hair, ruffling it a little as he thinks. ]
Alright, I.. guess that sounds like the stuff we usually do. [ Just on a whole new level. At least usually the world-destroying threats are contained within their own world.. But even being pulled to a different world for this isn't such a big change that it comes as a huge shock for Fabian. He seems capable of processing it alright, even if poor Adaine has to relay the information to him this way. ] But if that's it, then I don't get why they took us. I mean-- Just us, you know? Why not all six of us?
[ They're usually in this sort of thing together, after all. And maybe Fabian could understand why if just Adaine was taken, since she's the Oracle and all, but-- him and Adaine? That's such a strange combination. Unless it's because he's associated with her whole Oracle thing now because of the dance battle.. ]

I've been thinking that too. Surely, we would have had a better chance of proving Spyre worthy of saving if we had a full party with us.
[ Not that she's egotistical enough to think that the Bad Kids are the best possible representatives to speak on behalf of all of Spyre.

[ More than fine, actually. After how big and empty his house had been for most of the year, Fabian desperately craves company. And even if they wouldn't be sharing a place, at least they'd be close together? He could go and see Adaine whenever.
It's already a huge move up from his previous situation.
Still-- He doesn't want to let on as to just how bad that situation made him feel, so downplaying it is. Sure, Adaine. It only sounds fine. Not like Fabian's heart is doing excited little leaps in his chest or anything. Nope siree! ]
